Hello! I’m Sophie, a thirty-something sewist from Yorkshire and the creator of Drapeth. I live in Leeds with my husband Brendan where I design, cut and make everything right here in the living room of our one bed flat, or as I like to call it, my studio.

Drapeth is a one-woman sustainable fashion brand born out of a love for pattern-Tetris and transforming precious vintage remnants into something new. My aim is to create modern designs with just a touch of frivolity using a mix of preloved, deadstock and recycled fabrics, all hand-selected by yours truly. Some pieces will be available in small batches but many will be completely unique.

About Me

Thrifting is in my DNA thanks to my antiques dealer Dad and make-do-and-mend Mum whose handmade clothes from her own childhood and co-ordinating wardrobe for her favourite doll inspired my creativity growing up. I love trying to squeeze a garment out of a weird-shaped remnant found at a rag market or car boot sale and using up every last scrap. I studied Fashion Design at University then spent an interesting couple of years managing a charity shop after I graduated, where my favourite job was styling the windows.

I’ve been sewing professionally for 5 years now, everything from upcycled vintage clothing to costumes for the Masked Dancer. Alongside Drapeth I work part-time making beautiful sustainable wedding dresses with some of my favourite people at Rolling in Roses, an ethical bridal brand based in York, and I do the odd bit of freelancing.

I’m a sucker for mid-00s emo music, I collect big and small versions of things and I bloody love a good dance.
