Fabrics & Pricing

Each Drapeth piece is made from preloved or deadstock fabrics. I wash all thrifted fabrics before use but some may still feature small imperfections; if unavoidable they will be positioned in a discreet area of the item and always noted in the product listing. There will only ever be a limited quantity available and its unlikely I will be able to restock a fabric once its gone.

I have two pricing bands which cover the cost of buying the fabric and the time involved in sourcing. The higher band is reserved for fabrics which may be from a sought after designer (e.g. Liberty or Sanderson); a rare print; particularly good quality, weight or fibre; or just because I splurged a bit on something unique! This means some garments of the same style may be priced slightly different to one another. I will always provide information in the product listing.

**In future I will be limiting my use of deadstock fabrics as the supply chain is often unclear and in some cases large fashion brands have started to overproduce fabric simply to sell it as deadstock, creating more industry waste rather than reducing it.

Garment Care

Please refer to the specific advice provided with each product. Due to the nature of the fabrics I use it is not always possible to be sure of the exact age and fibre content; I rely on information given by sellers and carry out burn tests to make an informed guess.

  • For most bags, I would usually reccommend hand washing with a mild detergent
  • Most garments should be safe to wash on a 30 degree cycle and should never be tumble dried
  • Garments with embroidery are not suitable for machine washing.

Sustainability & Ethos

No brand can be truly sustainable but believe me it's at the heart of everything I do here at Drapeth. I am all about the slow pace and using what's already there.

  • I use second hand fabrics which reduces waste and utilises existing resources
  • My bag patterns are designed using blocky shapes which fit together to minimise waste when batch cutting
  • I save all my offcuts to make future accessories
  • I am passionate about size inclusivity - my patterns are drafted from a UK size 16 block and graded up and down from there. I strive to achieve a good fit across a wide range of sizes and offer adaptations for different bodies where possible
  • I often upcycle vintage curtains and bedding but will never use fabric from 'plus-size' garments as there is often limited availability in the second hand market and I believe they should be left for people who will wear them as they are
  • All my packaging is plastic-free, recycled and/or recyclable
  • Everything is handmade by me!
